ABOUT
photography X fine arts X letty staal

Firmly rooted in the IJssel Valley but free from fixed frameworks, visual artist and photographer Letty Staal seeks subtle tension, a raw undertone and calibrated contrasts — something that balances the familiar with the unexpected.
Her concept of beauty is continuously in motion, blending freshly gathered elements with settled ideas until everything clicks. When it does, it feels both grounding and energizing — comfortable, liberating, and unmistakably her own. This openness doesn’t stop at her art; it’s part of her life as well.
A graduate of the Amsterdam Vogue Academy (Fashion Design/Styling) and ARTEZ Art Academy (Painting), Letty now works from a quiet village where nature isn’t just a backdrop, but an active collaborator — her garden and pond serving as an open-air studio, with props sourced straight from her own soil.
Earthiness against culture is a recurring theme in her photography. At the same time, her work reveals unexpected and charming connections between fashion, tradition and nature, highlighting both their harmony and their contrasts.
In her ongoing series What to wear Letty explores themes like transience, raw romance, and purity set against vanity. She also embraces creative detours, as seen in standalone projects like Dogsonly, and in Other & Odd & Other, where she includes analog pieces among others. By refusing to confine herself, new angles and ideas naturally emerge.
Self-represented, Letty takes on clients selectively. To inquire, please get in touch via the Contact form.
